چکیده

Sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua L.) valorization is gaining importance due to the presence of health-promoting bioactive compound, artemisinin. Considering wide possible application artemisinin drug formulations, new, greener technologies in their production are welcome. In this study, was extracted from A. leaves using green extraction (ultrasound-assisted extraction, supercritical CO2 deep eutectic solvent and subcritical water extraction) combination with solvents. Artemisinin present up 3.21 µg/mgdw. Among different techniques, HPLC data revealed (SCO2) extracts exhibit highest yield non-polar properties. Additionally, volatile compounds profile SCO2 extract determined, camphor (12.23%), arteannuin b (15.29%) artemisia ketone (10.97%) as most abundant compounds. Obtained results encourage use techniques for separation expected find potential pharmaceutical, cosmetic food applications.

Examining The Extraction Of Artemisinin From Artemisia Annua Using Ultrasound

Artemisinin suppresses the life-cycle of the plasmodium parasite which causes malaria. It is found naturally occurring within the trichome glands of the Artemisia annua plant. Traditional methods for extracting artemisinin are time-consuming and have high environmental impact due to the temperatures and organic solvents which must be employed. Ultrasound decreases these through acoustic streami...

Artemisia annua (Sweet Annie), Other Artemisia Species, Artemisinin, Artemisinin Derivatives, and Malaria

This paper reviews the use of whole-plant Artemisia annua (sweet Annie) as it pertains to malaria including history, chemistry, clinical efficacy, pharmacokinetics, dosing, safety, and resistance. Artemisinin, the sesquiterpene lactone found in the plant, and various semi-synthetic variants of it used as critical drugs around the world for malaria are discussed in comparison to the whole plant....

Extraction of the Antimalarial Artemisinin from Artemisia Annua L. Leaves with Supercritical Co2

The antimalarial artemisinin, the active principle of the plant Artemisia annua L., was extracted by Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE). Soxhlet extraction was studied as comparison processes. The extracts were analyzed by the indirect method GC-FID. The maximal extraction yield (1.82%DW) was obtained by SFE at T=40°C, P=200bar, CO2flow=4.5g/min, and 20% ethanol as modifier. The artemisinin e...

Computational Identification of Sweet Wormwood (Artemisia annua) microRNA and Their mRNA Targets

Despite its efficacy against malaria, the relatively low yield (0.01%-0.8%) of artemisinin in Artemisia annua is a serious limitation to the commercialization of the drug. A better understanding of the biosynthetic pathway of artemisinin and its regulation by both exogenous and endogenous factors is essential to improve artemisinin yield. Increasing evidence has shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) pl...
